Access to Norman City Council meetings will be more widely available after technology approved this week by the council is installed.

The city council on Tuesday approved spending $48,044 to MCCi, LLC for an automated agenda management program that will allow city council and planning commission meetings to be streamed online live. The council also approved an annual cost of $11,402 for maintenance and support of the program and $49,568.01 for purchase and installation of video streaming equipment. The council approved a $1,676.34 per month cost to provide hosting services for the feature.

"I think it would be important and useful for people who can't get to the meetings," said Chad Boese, a three-year Norman resident. "If there was something going on in Norman that I was interested in, it would be nice to have the information available online."

The video will be archived so it can be replayed at any time. The online video will be in addition to the live playings of meetings on local cable on channel 20, which reaches only certain areas of Norman.
