OU Thetas Celebrate 100 Years

The Kappa Alpha Theta house is located at 845 Chautauqua Ave.

Thousands of women have had their lives changed because of an OU sorority that is celebrating its 100th year on campus this year.

The Alpha Omicron chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was chartered on campus in 1909, according to the OU Student Life Web site. Theta was the first Greek-letter fraternity for women in the nation and was originally founded at DePauw University on Jan. 27, 1870, according to the OU Theta Web site.

"The Theta house offered a home to a small-town girl with automatic family and rules," said Sherry Latham, a 1985 OU nursing graduate and former Theta who is originally from Sulphur. "There was a ton of tradition, which I greatly loved."

Theta participates in many events on campus. The next big event for the sorority and for many other organizations on campus is the Campus Activities Council's Fall Family Weekend Nov. 13-14.
